Having to Move Location Over Summer

Hey folks, as most of you are very aware of, North Lanarkshire Council refuse to keep the Cumbernauld Village Hall open over the summer holidays, despite us offering to jump through any hoops and coming up with multiple workable solutions, we get stone walled at every turn. To say this remains a bit of a pain point would be something of an understatement. Things are moving behind the scenes but nothing that can address this issue in the short term.

As it stands, this means the club needs to move over the summer, we’ve been and viewed a selection of different venues. Most of them were fine space wise but had issues around storage, the number of tables available, the dates & times available, parking or the physical location. However, we did find one that ticked more of the boxes than others.

Banknock Community Hall

The Banknock Community Hall is two junctions further along the M80 motorway from the Cumbernauld Village Hall, has plenty of tables, a good sized space, is easy to get to, has decent parking, there’s a bit of storage space and the availability we wanted, it seemed like a perfect fit. The hall has also recently been done up, which is nice.

I’m sure Stephen will be delighted that he doesn’t have to cart 12+ tables and the same again in boxes of terrain and gaming mats back and forward each week over the summer. Though I think we can all agree that we appreciate the massive effort he put in with all those last year. There was no way we were doing that again, as it’s not fair to rely on one person.

How do I get to Banknock Community Hall?

If you are driving, you leave the M80 motorway at Junction 7 (Haggs).

If coming from Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow, the X36 Swift from the Bus Station takes roughly 45 mins to get to Banknock or about 10 mins (2 stops) from Cumbernauld Bus Station to get to Banknock.

When Will the Club Meet There?

The club will meet at the regular time (between 6-10pm) at the Banknock Community Hall over the following dates:

• Thu 01/08/24
• Thu 08/08/24

The club will not run on the 4th of Jul, due to the election (the hall like many others, is already booked), but we are swapping that day out to Tue/Fri instead.

Will There still be Monday Gaming?

At this moment, unfortunately there is no Monday gaming planned, the Hall already has bookings for Mondays and the club would struggle to cover the hire cost with our current Monday attendance.

When are We back to the Cumbernauld Village Hall?

The club will return to the Cumbernauld Village Hall from Thursday the 15th of August. Monday nights will start up again from the 19th of August.
